Neuromodulators: (the 3 brand name neuromodulators available in North America are Botox, Xeomin and Dysport). These neuromodulators have different indication approvals and used for a number of different medical applications. In North America the main aesthetic 2 applications are:
- Aesthetic: There are 2 different types of wrinkles; static and dynamic. Dynamic wrinkles are those that are formed when we make facial expressions. For example when you smile you raise your eyebrows and you create forehead lines. As we continue to age and make these same facial expressions over and over these lines start to stay visible on our face even when we aren’t making an expression. These are called static wrinkles. Neuromodulators are purified proteins that essentially relax the muscles to help you stop creating the facial expressions that are causing static wrinkles. Overtime they can help soften and possibly even take away a static wrinkle. Neuromodulators are a preventative treatment.
- Therapeutic: Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), Migraines, Blepharospasm (uncontrolled blinking of the eye), Cervical Dystonia (abnormal head positions caused by muscle spasms in the neck), Overactive Bladder, Strabismus (eyes not aligning properly), Upper Limb Spasticity(uncontrolled muscle stiffness and tightening). These Therapeutic conditions often have some coverage under private health care plans. Please call your insurance provider and visit your doctor for more information.
